Where modernist memory meets contemporary experience
Facing Québec City’s Grand Théâtre, Le Quarante 7 reimagines the heritage of the 47th parallel as a sensorial destination where architecture, design, and gastronomy engage in a harmonious dialogue between modernist memory and a contemporary perspective.
Facing Québec’s Grand Théâtre — a strong symbol of modernist brutalism — the restaurant Le Quarante 7 offers a sensitive reinterpretation of the architectural and culinary heritage of the 47th parallel. Designed by STGM, the project embodies a desire for balance: preserving the soul of the place while projecting it into the future.
The interior layout has been completely redesigned to improve circulation, optimize service areas, and eliminate underused spaces. The kitchen, expanded by 25%, now includes a catering service to meet the evolving needs of both staff and a diverse clientele.
Trombone-shaped light fixtures, created by Luminaire Authentik, echo the musicality of the Grand Théâtre while punctuating the space with discreet poetry. The original furniture and materials have been carefully restored, reflecting a deep respect for collective memory and sustainability.
In the dining room, materials converse: deep blue meets the warmth of brass and the softness of velvet. In collaboration with local artisans Trica and Romano, STGM designed custom furniture that adds a sense of intimacy and conviviality.
Le Quarante 7 thus becomes a place of intergenerational experience, where tradition and modernity come together in an atmosphere that is elegant, responsible, and vibrant.
