A workplace designed to bring people together
For its Quebec City offices, Bentley wanted to create an environment that was functional, welcomining and warm. STGM reimagined the space around a variety of ways of working, turning collaborative areas and shared spaces into meaningful anchors for everyday office life.
A new office experience
The redesign of Bentley’s offices on Lebourgneuf Boulevard in Quebec City transforms approximately 10,900 sq. ft. into a contemporary workplace where focused work, collaboration and informal interactions come together.
Our team’s approach was grounded in a careful understanding of employees’ needs and the activities that shape their workday. Individual workstations, private offices, meeting rooms, spontaneous collaboration spaces, alcoves and more relaxed areas make it easy to move naturally from one work mode to another.
More than simply a place for workstations, the office becomes an environment where people can focus, connect, meet and come together—with spaces people genuinely want to spend time in.
Spaces that adapt to different needs
The program includes more than 30 workstations, private offices and a variety of meeting spaces. A large conference room accommodating approximately 20 people complements several rooms designed for smaller group meetings. Workstations and offices are also equipped with sit-stand desks, providing greater flexibility throughout the day.
Reusing materials to reduce impact
The project also embraces circularity through the reuse of existing materials. Glass partitions were recovered and reused—a particularly meaningful measure given the significant environmental footprint of materials such as glass, steel and gypsum in interior fit-outs. Reusing carpet, acoustic ceiling tiles and light fixtures also helped reduce the project’s overall footprint.
When the new offices opened, the savings associated with this approach were estimated at approximately 25 tonnes of avoided CO₂ emissions. For comparison, this is equivalent to driving roughly 100,000 km in a gasoline-powered car—about 204 round trips between Montreal and Quebec City, or 2.5 times around the Earth. It also represents, as an indication, the annual emissions of approximately six average gasoline-powered cars.
The café as a social hub
At the heart of the design, the café goes beyond its primary function to become a true shared living space. Open and generous, it brings together a kitchen, counter, large tables and a variety of seating options. Its layout encourages breaks, informal conversations and collaborative work alike.
A palette of deep blue, light wood and terracotta tones creates a distinctive atmosphere, while the lighting and furniture give the space a more residential feel. The design intentionally blurs the line between a professional environment and a place for people to gather.
Creating landmarks and a sense of place
The design extends into the circulation areas. Materials, changes in finishes and lighting help structure the journey through the space, while integrated signage makes it easier to navigate between different areas.
A chronological mural dedicated to the company’s history transforms one corridor into an expression of Bentley’s identity. Elsewhere, rooms and spaces are named and clearly identified, further strengthening the workplace’s distinctive character.
