25 years of growing together

October 14, 2026

In 2001, STGM was a team of 12 people working from a single office in Québec City. Twenty-five years later, our team brings together more than 170 professionals across four offices.

Along the way, projects have helped us grow, new teams have joined us, new areas of expertise have enriched our practice, and collaborations have enabled us to go further.

This growth has also been built on lasting relationships of trust with our clients and partners. Some of these collaborations have continued for decades, from one project to the next, reflecting an approach to working together in which listening, rigour, and the pleasure of building together play an essential role.

Our 25th anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come and celebrate everyone who has contributed to our journey. Above all, it invites us to look ahead and imagine what we want to continue building together.

A practice that grows and evolves

STGM’s story has taken shape one project at a time. Some projects have led us into new sectors and territories. Others have presented challenges that have transformed the way we design, collaborate, and deliver.

As projects became increasingly complex, our practice evolved alongside them. We developed new areas of expertise and welcomed teams and specialists who shared our vision of a more integrated and collaborative approach. The goal was never simply to grow, but to bring together the knowledge and skills needed to design better and tackle increasingly demanding challenges.

In 2010, Codex strengthened our expertise in building codes and standards, allowing us to integrate regulatory requirements from the earliest design stages and better support our teams in delivering complex projects.

In 2014, IDEA, our interior design and wayfinding studio, broadened our perspective on spaces, their uses, and the experiences of the people who inhabit them.

In 2015, TOPO Planification added real estate planning to our range of expertise, allowing us to become involved even earlier in the project planning process.

Our growth continued with the addition of BFH in 2017, strengthening our expertise in heritage architecture, followed by Cobalt in 2018, whose experience in public transit opened up new possibilities. In 2020, the creation of Partie 5 further expanded our services with a team specializing in building science and building envelope performance.

Our development also took on a geographical dimension with the acquisition of an office on Québec’s North Shore in 2021. More recently, the addition of Minicucci architecte and LLA Architecture, in 2025 and 2026 respectively, has strengthened our teams and consolidated our presence in the healthcare sector.

These areas of expertise did not simply accumulate. Together, they gradually transformed the way we work. Today, architecture, design, real estate planning, heritage conservation, building science, building codes and standards, sustainable development, and technology come together from the earliest stages of a project, combining knowledge and perspectives to better understand, better design, and better deliver.

I am proud of how far we have come, but what excites me most is what we are now capable of achieving. We have grown, our teams have gained new talent, and our expertise has expanded. All of this gives us a strong foundation to continue evolving.

The projects that shaped us

STGM’s evolution can also be traced through the projects that have marked our journey. Beyond their completion, some have challenged us to rethink our approaches, explore new construction methods, develop expertise, and evolve the way we design.

The Sécurité Nature project marked an important milestone in our exploration of light wood-frame construction, opening the door to a different approach to building that would later influence the design of our own headquarters and other projects.

The reconstruction of the Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury challenged us to create a dialogue between heritage, contemporary architecture, and new uses. The Armstrong Border Crossing, meanwhile, demonstrates how significant constraints can drive innovation and the pursuit of sustainable solutions.

Through projects such as the Naskapi CLSC, we deepened our understanding of northern realities and learned to design architecture that responds thoughtfully to communities, territories, and their climatic and cultural contexts.

More recently, our involvement in major projects such as Lacordaire Station, part of the Montréal Metro’s Blue Line extension, reflects our ability to contribute to complex infrastructure projects where architecture must address significant technical, urban, and human challenges.

These projects, among many others, have helped shape STGM. Each has allowed us to learn, push boundaries, and develop knowledge that continues to inform our work today.

Behind these achievements are also people, ideas, and collaborations that have helped our practice evolve. It is this collective story that we want to celebrate as we mark our 25th anniversary.

The projects that have helped us evolve the most are not necessarily the largest. They are often the ones that have challenged us to question our assumptions, explore new ideas, and learn what we did not yet know. After 25 years, I believe this curiosity remains one of our greatest strengths.

Looking ahead

Building on 25 years of experience, STGM continues to evolve, with the ambition of strengthening its foundations while creating opportunities to go further.

We have great ambitions for the future, but the firm’s evolution requires careful planning. We are investing in our teams, the next generation of leaders, and technology to give ourselves the means to deliver our projects and seize new opportunities. Our goal is to continue evolving on a solid foundation.

This ambition translates into concrete actions: preparing the next generation of leaders, investing in talent development and technology, strengthening collaboration across our areas of expertise, and continuing to expand into new markets. These initiatives will enable us to seize new opportunities and support our clients in increasingly ambitious projects.

Beyond our projects and expertise, it is the people and relationships we have built over the years that make us strong. Looking ahead, we want to preserve this culture of trust, collaboration, and enjoyment in working together, while bringing our own ideas and perspectives to help the firm continue to evolve.

These 25 years represent a collective journey, driven by dedicated teams, projects that have challenged us to evolve, and relationships of trust built over time.

Today, we proudly celebrate how far we have come, but our eyes are firmly set on the future, with the ambition to keep growing and building together.
