Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury

Villa Frédérick James ©Roger St-Laurent

The building, a landmark in the Percé landscape, was carefully relocated to protect it from coastal erosion while preserving its original orientation and silhouette.

A respectful and adaptive approach

STGM works on heritage buildings with both rigor and sensitivity. Each project is guided by the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada, while taking into account each site’s unique context and the specific needs of our clients. We favour intelligent compromises that ensure coherence, flexibility, and feasibility.

Rehabilitating for long-term value

Rehabilitation lies at the heart of our commitment to sustainable development.
We encourage the reuse of existing buildings — whether or not they are legally protected — and support clients in planning compatible new uses for decommissioned sites.

Our goal: to preserve architectural integrity while meeting budgetary, regulatory, and technical challenges. Each addition is conceived within a construction logic that respects the existing built environment.

National Assembly Library ©Stéphane Groleau

Completed in 2024, the redesign of the National Assembly Library restored the grandeur of this emblematic Beaux-Arts space.

Restoring with discernment

Restoration is approached with precision and responsibility.
We prioritize the overall preservation of sites, assessing each component with care.
By recognizing the historical evolution of places, we avoid reconstructions that might create a false sense of history. Every intervention is guided by context, budget, and timelines — in a transparent, collaborative process.
