Projets / Manoir Richelieu – Envelope rehabilitation
In consortium with EVOQ Architecture, STGM carried out the analysis, preparation, and rehabilitation of the Manoir Richelieu’s building envelope in La Malbaie.
A large-scale restoration in five phases
This major heritage project, valued at $22 million, was divided into five phases of work, launched following a successful pilot project. After restoring the pavilion and completing the first two phases of the Manoir, the final stage of the construction site included, among other things, the restoration of the main façade.
A rigorous and progressive approach
Each phase of the project was preceded by in-depth studies and technical analysis of the building envelope. This process allowed for precise planning of interventions, respecting the architectural character of the building while ensuring its long-term durability. The goal: to preserve the integrity of the Manoir while improving its performance and resilience.
Targeted and specialized interventions
The final phase included several key interventions: replacing windows and large arched French doors, restoring the cedar shingle roof of the pavilion, and reconstructing the concrete dormers after removing fiberglass coverings. Flashings were also added to sills, bands, and dormers to protect the newly repaired concrete from water infiltration and weather damage.
Preserving heritage with precision and sensitivity
This project demonstrates our ability to work on complex heritage buildings with rigor, sensitivity, and technical expertise. Every architectural gesture is designed to respect the history of the site while meeting contemporary conservation standards. The Manoir Richelieu, a landmark of La Malbaie, is gradually regaining its former glory through careful and sustainable restoration.
