Projects / Site historique du Banc-de-pêche de Paspébiac
STGM restored the Banc-de-Pêche-de-Paspébiac, preserving the integrity of a landmark that embodies Gaspé’s maritime and cultural history.
A major witness to Gaspé’s maritime heritage
Designated a historic site by both the Government of Québec and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, the Banc-de-Pêche-de-Paspébiac reflects a defining era in coastal fishing and the lives of the families who depended on it. Eleven buildings — warehouses, cooperage, forge, carpentry shop and more — stand as enduring symbols of the Anglo-Norman companies Robin and Le Boutillier Brothers, whose trade empire shaped the Gaspé Peninsula’s economy from the 18th to the early 20th century.
A mandate of expertise and heritage precision
STGM led the restoration through a comprehensive mandate that included architectural surveys, structural assessments, the development of a functional and technical program, and the preparation of plans and specifications. The project sought to preserve and reinterpret the spirit of the site while integrating new mechanical systems and contemporary uses.
A phased approach for lasting impact
Given the scope of the site and the number of buildings, the work was divided into seven lots over three successive phases — each guided by one central goal: to restore the site’s commemorative integrity and ensure its continued legacy within Gaspé’s cultural landscape.
