Structural ingenuity and industrial design

In response to the growth of its operations, Zone Display Cases required additional space. The client sought to add an administrative floor above the existing manufacturing workshop in order to bring all functions under one roof. However, the original building—economically constructed—did not have the structural capacity to support a third level, particularly at the foundation level. This constraint led to a creative line of thinking: what if the new roof became an independent structure, supported by exterior columns and bracing?

This bold strategy made it possible to deliver a project that initially seemed difficult to envision. Multiple load-bearing capacity studies and structural simulations confirmed the feasibility of the solution, paving the way for an expansion that is both original and exemplary.

The result: a distinctive industrial building whose innovative structural solution is fully expressed through its architectural language. The new, fully glazed level now houses the administrative offices of a company that, from Québec City, designs, manufactures, and installs museum display cases around the world.
