A strategic site, an essential mission

At the heart of the Wilfrid-Derome building in Montréal, the Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale (LSJML) and the Coroner’s Office share a highly specialized environment serving all of Québec. Their cohabitation requires a rigorous organization, where each space supports critical functions related to public safety and justice.

A structured approach for complex needs

The mandate focused on developing the functional program and conducting a real estate analysis to modernize the facilities. The approach included rethinking operational modes, informed by best practices and the specific safety requirements of these activities, while paying close attention to staff well-being. Urban and heritage considerations were also integrated, calling for a sensitive and coherent approach.

A targeted expansion to ensure continuity

An expansion of the existing building was identified as the most appropriate response to functional needs while simplifying the implementation of the work. This approach supports a seamless transition between existing and future spaces, maintains essential connections between different units, and ensures continuity of operations.
