Projects / Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury | Wayfinding
Memory and dialogue with the site
Designed to meet the functional needs of visitors, the signage at the Manège militaire Voltigeurs de Québec defines the circulation while gradually revealing the heritage value and unique character of each space.
Guide, reveal, enhance
Deployed with subtlety, the graphic interventions favor noble materials, creating a dialogue with the building’s history and the sobriety of its lines. Visible without imposing itself, the system guides users and the public through their movements while highlighting the singular character of the site. The visitor experience flows more smoothly, without compromising aesthetics. A detailed study of circulation paths enabled the development of a clear wayfinding strategy, integrating both horizontal and vertical flows.
The heritage context presented a significant challenge. Regulatory constraints, conservation requirements, and applicable standards guided every decision. A synergy between architecture and signage was developed to ensure spatial coherence. Through this integrated approach, wayfinding becomes a tool to enhance the visitor experience. Signage is conceived as an architectural gesture: precise, responsible, and rooted in its environment.
Coherent graphic identity
The design of the graphic identity and the development of usage guidelines have ensured a lasting identity. The logo, created with a double line, schematically represents the two turrets of the façade while also referencing the two “M”s in the name Manège militaire. These fine, parallel lines are applied consistently throughout the entire graphic ecosystem, from the pictogram family to directional signage.
