Projects / Synase Healthcare Complex
Inspired by SYNASE, an enzyme that catalyzes the creation of complex compounds, the project embodies an architectural approach where each medical function integrates into a coherent whole.
An innovative healthcare complex in the heart of Quebec City
Located at the intersection of Henri-Bourassa Boulevard and 18th Street, near the future Enfant-Jésus super hospital, this 125,000 sq. ft. healthcare complex reflects an integrated and sustainable vision of medical care. It brings together a family medicine clinic with over 20 physicians, a radiology clinic, an MRI clinic, a pharmacy, and a spine clinic—all within an environment designed for user well-being.
A collaborative and rigorous process
The project includes the design and construction of a four-storey base building of 25,000 sq. ft. per floor, with two levels of underground parking and an exterior lot. We supported the radiology and MRI clinic teams in defining their functional program, establishing room sizes, proximity links, and specific needs. The layout was designed to promote smooth workflows, collaboration among professionals, and intuitive wayfinding for the public.
Technical challenges met with precision
Integrating medical equipment required meticulous coordination throughout the project. The structure was adapted to support specific loads, the MRI room was positioned to avoid magnetic interference, and the Faraday cage was carefully integrated. Openings were planned to facilitate equipment delivery and future replacement without demolition. Acoustic insulation, ceiling heights, technical rooms, and control stations were all designed in detail to meet medical standards.
A signature curtain wall: light and privacy
The prefabricated curtain wall, designed by Epsylon Concept Inc., follows the curve of the urban intersection, offering a glazed façade across all four levels. A screen-printed pattern featuring the clinic’s logo filters natural light, ensures privacy in care spaces, and reduces the need for solar shades. This bold and refined architectural choice reflects our commitment to aesthetic and functional design—even within a constrained budget.
