Projects / Structuring transit network - Quebec City Tramway
STGM contributes to the development of the Québec City tramway design guidelines, helping to create a modern and sustainable urban transportation network.
A major collective endeavor
Building on its transportation expertise, STGM was part of the master team for Quebec City’s Structuring Public Transit Network, developed in collaboration with WSP Canada, CIMA+, HATCH, and Daoust Lestage under the TRAM-INNOV consortium. The network’s backbone — the tramway — aims to redefine urban mobility across the metropolitan area.
A tramway at the heart of the city
Spanning 22 kilometers from Cap-Rouge to Charlesbourg, the tramway includes an underground section. With a capacity of 260 passengers and service every 4 to 8 minutes, it delivers four times the performance of a bus. Operating on a dedicated corridor with traffic signal priority, it will become a central element of sustainable mobility in Quebec City.
Designing an integrated and enduring vision
STGM’s mandate included defining the design and reference guidelines for the tramway and producing documentation for the selection of the consortium responsible for its design, construction, financing, and maintenance. The firm’s approach emphasizes urban integration — blending heritage and modernity to create a contemporary design rooted in place.
A distinct urban signature
Inspired by major European transit projects, Quebec City’s tramway aspires to be a civic landmark and urban symbol. Guided by principles of simplicity, clarity, and timelessness, the design promotes safe, luminous, and inspiring public spaces — shaping a sustainable legacy for the city’s future generations.
