A measured architectural conversation

The expansion of École Bon-Pasteur, designed by STGM, transforms the school into a more complete and inspiring learning environment while respecting the architectural identity of the original building. By slightly offsetting the new volume, the design establishes a subtle dialogue between past and present, supported by a material and colour palette that continues the surrounding built and landscaped context. This approach ensures the harmonious integration of the addition, both architecturally and in its relationship to the site.

Spaces designed for the school community

The expansion adds four new classrooms, a daycare room with office, a multipurpose room, a kitchenette, and locker areas, responding to the growth and evolving needs of the school community.

The locker areas are designed as small house-like structures, incorporating colour accents that facilitate wayfinding and add a playful touch. Their white exterior surfaces are intended for display, allowing the school community to gradually appropriate the spaces.

Inside the classrooms, the teacher’s zone is clearly defined through the use of an accent colour applied to the rear wall and ceiling, enhancing the legibility of the learning spaces.

Significant integrated millwork was also developed to optimize classroom storage, contributing to functional, organized environments conducive to learning.

The colour palette introduced in the locker areas extends into the classrooms, creating visual coherence across the project.

Finally, the site reconfiguration improves circulation and accessibility, notably through the addition of a new main entrance and a dedicated access to the daycare, contributing to a safer, more fluid, and inclusive experience for all users.

A sustainable approach established early in the design process

The project’s sustainable approach was established from the earliest stages of design and guided concrete decision-making throughout. The pursuit of LEED Silver certification led to the reuse of existing materials as well as the optimization of mechanical and electrical systems, contributing to a reduced environmental footprint for the building.
