Planning maintenance: the Faubourg elevator

3 avril 2025

Planning maintenance to avoid prolonged service interruptions

Recently, the City of Québec announced the temporary closure of the Faubourg elevator in order to carry out major maintenance work. While the equipment will be out of service for three months, this interruption could have been far longer had no advance planning been undertaken.

Preventive maintenance makes it possible to anticipate necessary repairs before an unexpected breakdown occurs. Without regular inspections, an unforeseen failure could have led to an extended shutdown, compounded by supply delays and more complex logistics. In addition, an emergency closure can have negative impacts on users and on accessibility within the area.

This situation highlights the importance of effective maintenance planning. Adopting a proactive rather than reactive approach not only helps reduce the duration of service interruptions, but also minimizes costs and inconvenience for the public. Well-maintained infrastructure is durable and reliable infrastructure.

At STGM Architecture, we support many property managers in planning the maintenance of their assets by carrying out in-depth technical audits of their facilities—most notably for the City of Québec, for nearly 10 years. Over the years, we have assessed more than 2,000 buildings, representing approximately 5 million square metres, enabling our clients to anticipate maintenance needs and extend the lifespan of their infrastructure.
