As part of my master’s research project, conducted in partnership with Habiter le Nord Québécois, I had the opportunity to publish an article in the volume Constructing and Inhabiting Inuit Nunangat in the journal Études Inuit Studies.
This publication is the result of several research projects that bring together a series of reflections on living and dwelling in Inuit communities in Nunavik and elsewhere across the circumpolar North. The housing crisis is a growing issue in Indigenous communities, prompting architecture researchers and architects working alongside these communities to explore various perspectives and forward-looking solutions. The primary objective of these reflections is to foster dialogue around culturally sustainable and appropriate spatial solutions in northern communities.
Architecture is thus placed at the service of culture—as a tangible heritage of values and cultural practices that reflects ways of living in and occupying the territory, for present and future generations. This publication allows anyone concerned or interested to gain insight into and better understand the expectations and challenges involved in building in the North.
