In the construction industry, IDP stands for Integrated Design Process.

An Integrated Design Process can be defined as a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach that brings together all key stakeholders in a construction project, from design through to occupancy. Clients, architects, engineers, developers, consultants, urban planners, and others work closely together in a collective search for optimal, innovative, and sustainable solutions throughout the building’s entire life cycle.

STGM Architects’ head office in Québec City is itself the result of such a process. Close collaboration among the various professionals led to the creation of a compelling showcase for each discipline, remarkable optimization of space and system efficiency, and the development of a rich, personalized work environment that offers high levels of comfort and vitality for its occupants. From the outset, STGM’s design team aimed to achieve an exemplary level of sustainable construction—an issue already central to the firm’s values—by creatively implementing the strategies required to attain LEED-NC Platinum certification.

More than six years after the building was commissioned, does the project still live up to the objectives the firm originally set? To find out, we invite you to attend the Sustainable Architecture Conference, organized by the Canada Green Building Council – Québec Chapter, which will focus on the theme of Integrated Design Processes.

The conference will feature Stéphan Langevin, lead design architect for the building, along with Miguel Sousa, electromechanical systems designer, who will present an overview of the project’s successes—as well as a few missteps—in terms of integrated design, sustainability, and overall building quality. Topics will also include operational and maintenance cost savings, electromechanical system performance, and the building’s adaptability in response to the evolving needs of its owner. Laurence Jodoin-Nicole, WELL AP–certified architect, will present the firm’s new aspirations to further enhance occupant comfort by pursuing WELL certification, along with the streamlined approach made possible by the strong foundations established through LEED Platinum certification.
